The Vacancy
Help us open the door to the outdoors.
At FitzRoy, we support people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs to live the lives they choose — in real homes and as part of their communities.
We’re now looking for someone to lead an exciting new project: helping the people we support spend more time outdoors, connecting with nature, building confidence, skills and relationships.
This is a brand new role, with the chance to shape something special from the ground up.
About the role
Location: Hampshire (with travel across FitzRoy services, particularly Petersfield)
Hours: 24 hours per week
Contract: Temporary – 2-year contract
Part Time Salary: Up to £22,400 per annum DOE
You’ll lead our outdoor and nature-based work across Hampshire, starting with a partnership with Petersfield Community Garden.
But this is about much more than gardening.
It’s about:
Seeing someone grow in confidence as they try something new
Creating spaces where people feel calm, connected and proud
Bringing people together through shared interests
Turning unused outdoor areas into places full of life
You’ll work closely with our services, the people we support, community partners and colleagues across FitzRoy to make this happen.
What you’ll be doing
Building and leading our outdoor programme across Hampshire
Supporting our services to create and improve their outdoor spaces
Helping teams bring outdoor activity into everyday support
Lead sessions to bring people together over a shared interest of the outdoors
Working alongside people we support to shape opportunities around what matters to them
Working alongside the Fundraising and Partnerships Team to encourage and grow partnerships for sustainability and growth.
Sharing stories and impact to help grow this work further
About you
You don’t need to come from a traditional background.
You might be:
A community connector
A gardener or outdoor enthusiast
Someone who has run projects that bring people together
Someone who simply knows how powerful being outdoors can be
What matters most is that you:
The power of getting outdoors
Building great outdoor spaces
See people, not labels
Bringing people together and sharing skills
Creating opportunities that genuinely change lives
Why this role matters
Too often, the people we support are excluded from everyday opportunities — including something as simple, and powerful, as spending time outdoors.
This role is about changing that.
It’s about creating moments of joy, building confidence, and helping people feel part of something bigger.

Testimonials
“The management team are flexible and ready to help, their attitude makes the rest of us very committed and loyal – we all help each other. It is such a lovely working environment and we supporting each other on the tough or challenging days and we know our hard word is appreciated, both by the service manager, and FitzRoy. I have never worked for another organisation where I felt so thanked and valued, with lovely incentives such as Team of the Month.”
"If we don’t encourage John to try new things, we are missing opportunities for him to find things he loves. For example, last year he was supported to go swimming for the first time in 30 years, and he absolutely loved it."
“FitzRoy is a truly fantastic place to work, the support from managers and colleagues is amazing. It’s a privilege to work for such a great company.”
