Support Worker – Specialist Mental Health Services
Didcot & Abingdon
FitzRoy is recruiting Support Workers to join our specialist mental health services in Didcot and Abingdon. We support people with learning and physical disabilities, as well as mental health conditions that challenge, to live independently in their own homes and within the community.
You will be working across both our learning disability and mental health services, supporting 10 service users, male and female, aged 18–25.
What we offer
£13.16 – £13.20 per hour
Additional £2.50 per hour for overtime (over 37.5 hours per week)
Full-time roles available
Shifts available between 07:00 and 22:00
Full training and ongoing development – no previous care experience required
About the role
This is a varied role where flexibility is essential. The people we support live largely independent lives and enjoy being active within their communities. Support is individually tailored and may include:
Encouraging and enabling people to access the community independently
Supporting participation in hobbies, interests and social activities
Promoting confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing
Very little personal care required
The individuals we support may experience mental health conditions such as PTSD, the effects of childhood trauma, and low-level self-harm behaviours, and benefit from consistent, compassionate and understanding support.
You will always be part of a team — a minimum of four staff are on shift each day, meaning no lone working.
Who we’re looking for
We are keen to find people who share our values and demonstrate the right behaviours and attitudes. You don’t need previous experience in care or formal qualifications — we will invest in your training and development to help you become an exceptional Support Worker.

“It’s hard to put into words what has motivated me to stay at FitzRoy for 50 years. I love working with the people we support, it really is all down to them. The connection you make with them and the difference you are making is the real delight of the job.”
“You don’t become a support worker unless you want to help people and make a difference to someone’s life. That’s what made me want to do this job – I have always been a caring person and I wanted to help give people with learning disabilities a voice.”
“FitzRoy is such an incredible place to work, everyone really cares about the people we support. I am genuinely passionate about improving their quality of life, and when you see the people we support achieving a goal I feel immense job satisfaction.”
